The Role
I enjoyed my placement as I was given more responsibility than I thought and really developed my practical skills which was my main aim for this year.
Everyone was very friendly and treated me as an equal.
If I ever had a problem, my supervisor was always willing to help. If she wasn't around, the other supervisors in the lab were also very helpful.
Some days I was very busy but other days, I was waiting around a bit due to waiting for a reaction to go to completion or if there was a queue on the machines.
A lot more than I was expecting but that means you get a really good, rounded experience and become more independent.
I definitely think my practical skills have improved drastically so that will help me in labs next year. I have also learnt a lot on the theoretical side, which will also benefit me.
The Company
Very friendly, open atmosphere. Everyone was very welcoming and willing to help.
The familiarisation day didn't seem that organised but once I actually started my placement, things ran a lot smoother.
I had a monthly meeting based on my personal development so I could bring up any issues then. Most students are also given some sort of extra responsibility during the year.

I would be willing to work here full time but in the current climate, I don't think they are taking many graduates on, if at all. However, I have developed the necessary transferable skills which will help me in any job I apply for.
The Culture
There were a few organised events by the students such as a Christmas Party and lots of house parties throughout the year.
Cost of living was reasonable, especially for down south. However, drinks were more expensive than I'm used to.
Basically non-existent, there is only one nightclub which is expensive and not very good. However London is not far so if you were willing to spend the money and organise it, that would be a good night out.
A few, there are lots of classes at the gym but not much else.
