The Role
The placement improved over time as more knowledge was gained.
A good rapport was built with the other team members which was good considering the short duration of the placement
Support was avaliable if needed, however the direction of the project I was given was very much up to me.
Again, the placement was very busy towards the end (report deadlines). Initially there were some quite periods, in particular learning the software required.
A reasonable amount of responsibility was given however I was not in control of a budget.
Many useful engineering skills were gained, in particular in vibration and FEA techniques. Presentation skills and report writing skills also gained.
The Company
Good atmosphere and friendly colleagues. Particularly on Fridays!
Very useful supervisors both in the company and at university. Particulally well setup considering the small intake I was in.
As mentioned before, many useful skills were gained and company hours were spent developing me personal skills.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I have been offered a position on their graduate scheme.
The Culture
Friday lunches were usually spent at the pub. A few out of work socials were also organised within out department, more organised within the student intake group.
Cost of living is cheaper than central Bristol.
Bristol has a very good nightlife, not so much in Filton, but the city centre is good. Lots of bars/clubs and other venues.
The company did have sports leagues however I was not involved with these.
