The Role
The job was fast paced and interesting. The challenging nature of the job was enjoyable as there is lots of information to learn.
Everyone was willing to speak to me about their job roles giving me a valuable insight. People were always happy to help.
HR arranged many training sessions and management gave regular feedback.
Due to the nature of the work i was limited in the jobs i could perform without having the FSA qualifications, however i still had plenty to do during the day.
I was limited in the jobs i could perform without having the FSA qualifications.
The skills gained do not directly assist in my degree (Physics) however I plan to have a career in finance so the training i had in the summer is extremely valuable.
The Company
There were many friendly and outgoing people in the office.
A two day training course started off the placement, then regular meetings and business presentations were organised throughout. There was also a weeky trading simulation. Trips were organised to the London Metal Exchange, ICAP brokers and a tour of The City.
Regular training opportunities were provided in the weekly trading simulations and the preliminary two day training. Also different departments would give talks each week to give an insight into all the job roles.
I hope to get employment with RBC in the future.
The Culture
HR arranged intern drinks to give interns and employees to chance to socialise. All the staff were all very friendly and the city is full of bars that people can meet up in for drinks after work.
London is an expensive area, however I live close enough to london that I could commute so did not have a high cost of living.
London is very lively. There are clubs/pubs to suit most people.
I was not at RBC long enough to be involved in activities outside of work, however i went to presentations by RBC after work to meet other people working in the sector.
