About You
It was absolutely brilliant! I have always known I want to pursue a career in law, but now I know it is with Pinsent Masons.
Exceptionally valued. It was very pleasant to see the index you created being used in a binder of documents or seeing the trainee utilise the research you compiled.
Aside the guidance I received from my trainee buddy, my supervisor scheduled 2 meetings a week to talk, set me tasks, provide feedback and answer any questions.
Even undergoing the assessment, or giving a presentation, are crucial skills that I can employ in future applications.
The Company
I was busy every day from 9am, well into the night (sometimes working, sometimes on a social!)
The graduate recruitment team were very welcoming, all the trainees very exceptionally diligent yet fun, and everybody was open and approachable. I did not hesitate to ask questions or to mingle at office drinks!
I got the chance to attend many seminars and legislation update talks, all of which were very insightful and beneficial. I also know about the training opportunities that become available once you are a trainee here at Pinsents - language courses, further training, monitoring from a supervisor, etc.
Every morning a few representatives from various departments would give a presentation explaining what kind of work their department did, which was a great insight into the various factions. Talking to the trainees was very helpful too; they explained what kind of work they do, how it assists the senior associates or parnters, and what events occur outside the office (esp. with their corporate responsibility group).
Pinsents have values which they reiterate throughout their presentations and which manifest themselves into the activities of the solicitors on a day to day basis. Understanding the company's values enables us to understand its strategies and 2020 vision - something that is of crucial importance when deciding if this is a firm where I want to spend a large portion of my life working at.
This was the most important factor. The day to day content is what you will be doing every day for many years if you qualify with the firm, thus actually experiencing the work is fundamental for deciding if this is a career suitable for you.
Everything Else
A substantial sum, which I am investing into an iPad and an annual subscription into the FT to develop my commercial awareness!
Absolutely. There were partner lunches, coffee dates with fellow interns, talks with the trainees from other departments, etc. Because everybody is so open, it is very easy to email somebody with a question or to start a conversation while making a drink in the kitchen.
The organissed social events were absolutely brilliant. - Comedy club and dinner in Leicester Square - Bowling and dinner at Startford Westfield - Office drinks - Lunch with partners and fellow interns It was a good opportunity to mindle with fellow vacation scheme students as well as talk to partners about their careers or time with Pinsents.
We had a talk explaining the corporate responsibility of the firm and the various voluntary schemes they get involved with. On top of that, the trainees told us about the sorts of activities they participate in, mostly rotating around office drinks!
Yes, absolutely. It has been exceptionally insighful into the inner workings of a commercial law firm, but also, it was a really fun experience and I met some great people.
