About You
My time at Pinsent Masons was very enjoyable and the firm went to good lengths to make sure we were engaged in meaningful diverse work and that we were involved in social activities within the firm.
I was placed in a small team who made me feel welcome and included.
Clear guidance on what was expected of me and how the tasks that I completed related to the broader spectrum of work with partners/ solicitors/ trainees.
Definitely a good insight in to commercial law and very good preparation for the LPC as it gave an idea of real work that lawyers were doing.
The Company
As far as I am aware the firm is relatively unique in offering presentations on the majority of practice areas, offering a chance to learn more about the firm than just the work of your own department. This was included in the timetable along with sufficient time to complete your own work in your practice group.
Colleagues at all levels were friendly and happy to help
I was always given feedback on the tasks that I completed and I was supported in attending a staff training session on an area of interest to me. In the short time period of the placement (2 weeks) I got the impression that personal development would be well supported.
I was assigned work by my trainee "buddy" and by senior associates and partners and encouraged to make telephone calls and attend meetings. The "real life" work gave me a good insight into the kind of matters I could be working with and how my day mat be as a trainee
We had some introduction to company values on the induction day and a talk from the CSR team. I think you get a feel for the culture quite early on.
Very useful 2 weeks as this was my first official work experience in this profession. I have decided to pursue further education to follow this career path.
Everything Else
I was paid enough to cover my travel expenses and take some money home
Yes we had a lunch with partners at the firm and one with trainees as well as presentations and open questions for several different teams.
After work social activities were arranged for us
A lot of information on CSR seems like a very good scheme. Also heard about some sports teams
All round a rewarding and insightful experience. Appears to be an excellent firm with growing opportunities- there is a sense of progress, growth and strong awareness of clients' businesses
