The Role
Working in a small/medium company, I get a lot of exposure to every part of HR (Recruitment, Operations, L&D). Working within the Financial Services industry at the time of the "credit crunch" made the job very relevant. Everyone is really friendly, helpful and grateful for any help I gave. There is always laughter in the office.
My manager and I had weekly meetings to catch up. I have a PMR every four months. I was offered any training that was relevant to my role.
At the start of my placement I was less busy as I was still learning. When I was familiar with the role, I was always busy, which makes the day go faster. There are times when I am extremely busy, but things could always be prioritised, and my team would always help - they always tried to send me home on time!)
I was given full responsibility for all part of my role. However, I was also able to escalate anything I felt I needed too.
Everything I have learnt here is invaluable. Skills such as communication skills and interviewing skills will be useful and can be applied anywhere I work. The training I received helped whilst in the job, and will with the HR and finance subjects in my degree. My training includes a course from the CIPD, which will help me if I decide I wish to study to become CIPD qualified. I also attended introductory training sessions on understanding the markets, which will help me if I want to work within the Financial Services industry again.
The Company
The atmosphere was great in the office, everyone got on well. On Fridays we sometimes put the radio on! However, when it needed to quiet everyone was respectful of this.
The placement was very well organised. Everyone knew who to speak to about what. During my application the recruiters were very helpful. The only issue I had was the dates of the assessment centre meant I had already been offered other placements. They have bought the assessments a month earlier to combat this.
I was offered any training/development I needed. My manager/L&D advisor went out of their way to find a HR CIPD course relevant to my role.

The Culture
There are only 6 placement students (8 in 210 intake). So you are able to get to know people really well. We always have lunch together and go for drinks after work.
Around the corner there are bars we regularly visit which have 241 deals until 8pm. I lived at home during placement, my train travel was loaned to me by the company to pay back monthly.
There are bars a couple of minuetes walk from the office. The tube station is next door to the office so getting anywhere else in London is easy.
The sports and social club had a constant stream of outside activities including crazy golf, paintballing, go karting...
