About You
This placement gives me a good insight into the life of a real commercial lawyer.
Everyone has been so supportive, especially the trainees.
I was given a lot of guidance by my trainee buddy and the senior associates also gave me a good 'lecture' on the areas of law and the 'business' side of the story.
The experiece shows me lawyers must be precise and accurate in conducting ANY type of work. I consider this a skill for life.
The Company
The Vac Scheme has been structured very well. There are eight hurdles to jump over.
I found that everyone is trying to put you at ease. The general office atmospere is also quite friendly.
I calculated that moneywise, the firm must have spent at £2500 for each candidate, which would include selection, partner interviews (2 chargeable hours), trainee and associates guidance and presentations, wage and expense etc.
As I was placed in a very busy team, I can tell how busy it is and how much dedication it required. Some associates and trainees stay as late as 11pm quite often. But the sense of accomplishment is also significant.
I think this is one of the most supportive working environment I have been in.
Through talking a lot of people via multiple events, I think I have a better view of what kind of lawyer (in terms of personality) and the area of practice I want to work at.
Everything Else
You can just ask for the opportunity.
A number of social events.
Yes, we were given a presentation on the firm's Corporate Social Responsibility Programme.
I would recommend the Vac Scheme to everyone wishing to study/working in law, although the competition for it is tough.
