About You
Very much so. It was a great experience and very insightful.
Everyone in my department made me feel at home from the first day.
My trainee 'buddy' would ask me how I was getting on throughout the day and I met with my supervisor on a number of occasions to discuss progress.
I had the opprtunity to draft letters and get feedback on this. I was also able to complete lease reports. There were lots of opportunity to refine my research skills.
The Company
We had presentations daily on different practice areas. There were social events and chances to meet with more senior staff and partners.
Everyone was enthusiastic from the start until the end. No body felt like they had too much work.
There was IT training at the start of the placement. Asside from that there was little training as such. This was because the firm is a working firm and you are expected to learn on the job to an extent.
Everyone was very open and candid about their experiences at the firm. People would give their own past experiences in terms of working hours and work load demands. They were open about their work life balance as well and how they had learned to cope with the stress and time sonstraints of a career in law.
Working here for this short time allowed me to see how people in the firm interact with each other. The social events also illustrated the relaxed side the the firm.
Confirmed what I already thought. Helped to decide that a career in a firm like this is what I want to do.
Everything Else
We were paid for our time and all reasonable travel expenses were reimbursed.
There were social events throughout the week with other students on the scheme. In addition there were opportunities to meet senior staff and ask them about their experiences.
Very well organised. The first event involved a meal for the students with a handful of current trainees. This was followed by bowling at a new bowling/bar location. Another event was a meal followed by an evening at a comedy club in Manchester's Northern Quarter.
We had a short talk on corporate responsibility. Trainees mentioned that there is the opportunity to get involved with sporting events such as five a side football.
It was a very enjoyable two weeks that seemed to fly by! Everyone was very friendly and the workload was measured.
