The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year with PSA Peugeot Citroen. I worked with a fantastic team and the general atmosphere of the workplace was friendly, welcoming and positive. As there aren't a great number of placement students you are given a greater amount of responsibility and have the opportunity to get involved in many interesting projects.
I was on the whole very busy throughout my placement; some times far greater than others, however there was always a steady flow of work and I had day-to-day tasks that I had to complete regularly as well as ongoing longer-term projects.
I was given a tremendous amount of responsibility on my placement, which gradually increased throughout the course of the year.
I developed very important skills of in-depth analysis, time-management and planning and organisation, however as I do an English Degree the HR skills I learnt aren't directly linked to my degree. However, now I am in my final year I have noticed a great change in the way I approach university work; I am better at managing my time and I get projects completed efficiently and effectively.
The Company
The placement year is highly structured and you would have a few days training in the first few days of your placement to give you a good introduction to the company.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
You will have discussions at the end of your placement whether you will be considered for the Graduate Scheme however this is not confirmed until later on in your final year at University.
The Culture
London is quite an expensive place however I live in London and therefore didn't have to pay rent. However rent and socialising costs are quite high.
Slough is an Industrial estate however central london is only one train ride away!
There are plenty of extra curricular activities you can get involved in and there is also a sports and social club at work which subsidises a Pilates Class after work.
