    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed working for Lidl on their 48 Week Placement Programme. The opportunities that have been presented to me have been invaluable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Throughout my time with the company I have been made to feel like a valued member of the team in every department I have spent time in.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As a Placement Student, I was provided with a dedicated Training Mentor to guide me and offer support throughout my Placement. This support network was fantastic, if I ever had any issues I knew that my Training Mentor would be there to listen and he ensured any issues I may have had were discussed during my monthly contact call/meeting and these would be resolved immediately.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout my placement the workload has been manageable. The busiest period of the placement, was during the time I spent completing my Management Training in store.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given plenty of responsibility throughout my Placement. It has been brilliant to take on tasks knowing that the end result was my sole responsibility. You can take full advantage of this if you choose to progress to Management level.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The time I have spent with Lidl far exceeds any other skills based training I could have taken on in terms of developing my transferable skills. At Lidl I have developed my organisation, communication and leadership skills drastically. As well as professionalism, I have also dramatically extended my networks. I have also been given a variation of opportunities to develop my skills through structured training programmes.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • If you choose to go down the Sales or Property route, the time you spend in an office will be minimal. I chose Sales and as a result, a lot of my time was spent in store, I had a fantastic team in the store I worked in and therefore there was a great atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall placement is extremely well structured. The route you decide to take is entirely up to you whether it be Sales, Warehouse or Property you can structure your placement accordingly.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invest a lot of time, money and effort in all of their Placement Students. In my experience, my Regional Director invested a lot in me by giving both of his students the chance to extend contracts and work on a major Project for the Region.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • My Regional Training Manager has given me really good feedback on the work I have completed at present and he believes that this will be reflected in my career prospects with the company as a post graduate.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There have been a number of training sessions with the fellow placement students from across the UK. These sessions have always been enjoyable and provided us all with a chance to catch up and share our experiences.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Because I have lived with my parents throughout the Placement period, personally the cost of living has been at a minimum. Any expenses I have incurred have always been covered by the company.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in my current location is not the highlight of the town however, when I spent time in Head Office with the fellow Placement Students, we had some great nights out in London.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Just before I began my Placement Lidl hosted the Lidl Olympics which was an open event for all employees. Currently, all regions are planning a Family Fun Day which is open to all employees in each region. I am sure that these kind of events will continue to be carried out over the years for all employees to get involved in.
