About You
The Company
They did attempt to teach me some things and I did feel that I did learn some new things whilst I was there. I did attend some talks and partners did try to explain things to me so it did feel nice to be appreciated.
It did help me see what it would be like to have a full time role as i spent a lot of the time shadowing one trainee or spending time with trainees. It did make me realise that prospects are limited at the firm.
I did understand the culture to a certain extent but i think that some other firms emphasise the culture a lot more than Boyes Turner. They could have promoted it a lot more and it does seem like the departments are not very friendly.
Everything Else
I was not paid anything or offered travel expenses to be reimbursed. I think that this was because i obtained the work experience through winning a competition and not the proper application way. But im not sure if they offer money the proper way either.
There were not any networking or social events. The trainees did take all of us on the work experience to lunch on the first day but that was the extent of this and was not particularly helpful to network with partners etc.
As i mentioned above, the social events were limited and there was not anything on offer at all which was a shame as i would have expected something from the firm as they did come across as sociable people.
I was made aware of the fact that there is a netball and football team but it did not seem particularly organised or good. It was not taken very seriously. I think they do some pro bono work sometimes too.
Hmm i am not sure. I would as it was not bad but the firm is quite small and therefore prospects are fairly limited i think. I would recommend it for the experience though and some people may prefer a small firm.
