The Role
It was a great year, being part of a team with a challenging goal, collaborating with people from other countries, feeling part of a friendly team and contributing to a project that will be used in the everyday lives of thousands of people.
You will have real responsibilities from day 1. You typically start with simpler tasks, and as you prove your mettle you are given more complex thing to work on. Your ideas are respected and your opinion is taken into consideration, you also have a good amount of freedom to achieve your goals.
My colleagues were supportive and helpful, everybody works as part of team with a common goal. There were times when it took me more time to do something for a task, but your managers are supportive when something goes wrong.
Paradoxically, I was more busy at the first half of my employment, because the project was still in the implementation phase, so it might depend on the phase of the project you are working in. Nevertheless, your manager will always have something challenging for you, to keep you up to speed.
I was given real responsibilites from day 1, as time passes you will be assigned more complex tasks, and you will feel you are contributing more to the project.
I reckon it was an invaluable year of experience in a multi-national company, which is the leader in its field. This is a great dive into your field, it will give you the opportunity to see if you really like what you are studying, and it will be a big plus in your resume for later.
The Company
There was frequently an interesting discussion in the office, in regards to detecting a software problem, fixing it, or implementing something new. Plus the atmosphere is fun, while we still remain professional to what we do.
I think there was a long time between application, interviews, and getting all that paperwork done, but once you set your foot in everything is smoother.
I was given some video courses to train for some technologies for which I didn't feel much proficient, and since I was in the software world, I was always given the appropriate time to do my research using google, to learn something about java/sql/javasript/etc.

There are many opportunities in the organization, be it in the UK or abroad, every placement is sent to you by email.
The Culture
Everyone is friendly here, there are some activities from time to time where you can socialize with you colleagues in a more relaxed setting.
The salary is around 1.100-1.200 pounds, my rent in a house share was 400 pounds, and let's say 200 pounds a month for food, so you still have 500-600 pounds a month for everything else (you might need some new clothes for example, the dress code was business smart in my department)
There wasn't much to do in the area I was working (the company was not in the town center), but there was a variety of places in the town, although the buses would not operate all night.
There was a variety of activites in the company (yoga, paintball, ping pong, quiz nights, pizza)
