The Role
I loved my placement. The experience i had whilst working for lidl was amazing, the placement offered flexibility and responsibility in a varied working environment.
Lidl invest a lot of time, effort and money into their placement scheme and it was evident throughout the year. Everyone from store assistants to directors took a keen interest in me and my experiences so far.
During the placement year i was provided with a regional mentor. Having a mentor and a well structured placement scheme made me feel supported and that i was able to get the best out of my year with excellent advice and help.
Busy doesn't cover it... Working for lidl isnt easy but possibly the most rewarding.
The responsibility throughout the year given to me was vast. I have been responsible for running full warehouse shifts on a daily basis to managing a large scale event for 3000 people.
Lidl has made me into a more rounded and professional individual. Although most placements offer the development of skills, the commercial exposure and networking opportunities that can be gained by doing this placement are immense. I will take all of my knowledge and skills and use them to help me achieve a good grade next academic year.
The Company
Busy and fun... Two words that can describe the office. With everyone working hard but still having a good laugh and banter.
The placement scheme was well structured however there are certain areas of organisation hat can be fine tuned. To be expected from a placement scheme and company that is still developing.
The training and development was faultless. Following a guideline of areas to develop skills in and having modular appraisals were two of many tools employed by lidl to ensure that i got the best out of my year.

I would love to return to the organisation, preferably within property as this was my favourite area of the business after completing my modules.
The Culture
Although we are located across the whole of the UK, we met up on a quarterly basis and had a really good time together. Everyone gets on and its a good team environment to be part of.
I lived in my home town throughout the year and as far as things go is not too expensive.
Working and living in my hometown the nightlife was as good as can be. Newton Aycliffe doesn't have much to offer but there are a few good areas around the north east to have a good drink.
Although i am busy with other sports outside of work there was little mention of any sports and social activities going on outside of the working environment. Mainly due to the work life balance.
