The Role
Every single second I felt like I was a valuable member of the team and the work I was involved in was varied and interesting. I woke up each morning excited for the day ahead and always looked forward to Monday morning.
I was surprised at just how quickly colleagues at all levels appreciated my work, suggestions and considerations.
Everything I was involved in was explained with consideration for the level at which I was at. I didn't feel awkward asking questions and everyone was approachable and genuinely accomodating of my queries.
From the word go I had lots to do. I was given tasks of varying importance with short to medium term deadlines which meant I really had to prioritise. At times my 'to do' list was daunting but my colleagues were excellent at asking if I needed help. On occassion I had quieter afternoons but that gave me an opportunity to get involved in CSR and Business Development.
I was genuinely surprised at the levels of responsibility I was given. I completed some high quality work for major clients and had the opportunity to lead mini projects. I drafted emails to clients and had the opportunity to meet with clients. Some of the work I was involved in was billable so I knew that it was of value to the firm and it allowed me to gain a proper understanding of the type of work a trainee is involved in.
I was involved in lots of practical activities. I particularly enjoyed the commercial focus of my work which provided me with a new approach to interpreting the law.
The Company
Everyone was really upbeat, friendly and positive. Even if staff had to stay into the evening the team atmosphere made the experience enjoyable.
The Graduate Recruitment team had the organisation down to a 't'. The communication, support and guidance we received was unrivaled. I knew well in advance the type of activities planned, who my supervisors would be and other useful information. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and by the end of the internship we were extremely close.
I couldn't believe how much time the firm invested in us. We weren't treated as if we would only be about for a short while, the staff treated us as if we were any other.

Having sat my interview for the training contract I would be optimistic for the future. I would really want to work at Baker & McKenzie and couldn't imagine working elsewhere.
The Culture
Within a short space of time we got on like old friends. Everyone was in the same boat and was willing to get to know each other. We organised events after work and soon because really close.
Trainees and colleagues often took us out so our expenses were minimal. The city is quite expensive but we recived a generous renumeration package and we weren't out a fortune.
We had the chance to visit some local bars, restaurants and clubs which were all very nice and fun.
Lots to do and what I particularly enjoyed was the fact I got to do lots with my colleagues outside of the office.
