The Role
An absolutely incredible 3 weeks, genuinely some of the best times I've had, alongside some of the best people you'll ever meet.
What I loved so much about the vac scheme at Linklaters is that I was treated with respect and kindness, yet always as a professional which was very nice.
That's one area where Linklaters really stands out for me; it really is a people firm. The door to almost every office is open for people to come and go, whether socially or professionally. I never once felt shy, uncomfortable or out of place.
Obviously, the principles you are assigned are extremely busy, and have billable targets to meet, so it can occassionally be difficult to allocate work to vac schemers, especially those from a non-legal background. However, on reflection, I have been very busy everyday, with few hours of boredom or nothing-tasks.
Again, it is difficult to award responsibility to students who aren't legally qualified. Certainly in my first seat, I was helping with a lot of work but it was not overly significant, all bar one task would be passed upwards and ammended hugely. In my second seat, however, I was part of a project team, where my work was proof-read and then collated with the rest.
Skills for the life, 10*, is the only possible answer here. In particular, my confidence and communciation skills have absolutely sky-rocketed.
The Company
The office environment is as fantastic as a leading law firm can be. Links really prides itself on being a people firm, and I really believe this to be true. Everybody has a laugh and really has time for each other.
Phenomenal, from start to finish.
Many lectures and seminars, as well as an incredible team building exercise, and of course the one-on-one time with associates.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
Still have to go through the interview, but retainment %'s are high and a lot of lectures are provided that help guide you through the process.
The Culture
Socials are seriously good at Links; london eye, oxo tower, boat trip, meals out, firm party.
City of London is an expensive area, but Links pay for almost everything, and the work cafeteria is incredible, and subsidised.
Obviously City is a working area for corporate organisations, but there were plenty of swanky bars and with the tube, London is a very small place.
I played for the linklaters football team on only my third day.
