About You
It was a fantastic experience, which was not only educational but lots of fun.
Despite being a non-law student, my supervisors were able to find real work for me and show how it fitted into the greater scheme of things.
When more senior supervisors were busy, trainees were onhand every step of the way to give advice.
While perhaps less useful for a theology degree, the things I have learnt on the scheme will be invaluable for when I start work.
The Company
The graduate team were excellent at drawing up a plan and making sure you knew exactly where you had to be every step of the way.
Baker & McKenzie is an extremely social and friendly firm so the atmosphere was very welcoming.
Every day we had a talk explaining more about each department. These talks were useful since they were educational not only on the firm but also on the global economy and how their work fits in etc. This will be invaluable in the future.
I think the scheme prepared me for the kind of work a trainee would do, but perhaps not the volume.
Sitting in two departments over the 3 weeks enabled me to guage the working culture across the firm and not only in one department.
The work was interesting - this scheme has clarified and reinforced for me the extent to which I want to work in commercial law.
Everything Else
We were paid £270 per week.
Lots of networking events were arranged, as well as social evening events.
Very well organised - lots of fun and we are certainly able to let our hair down. This was an important part of learning about the working culture, particularly as many trainees were at the social events.
Yes - probono and sports clubs.
This was three excellent weeks - everyday I looked forward to coming into work. I would absolutely recommend a vac-scheme here.
