About You
I really enjoyed the placement. I was kept busy all the time and the timetable included several social activities and professional development sessions
People at the firm made a conscious effort to make me feel welcome. They were often very willing to include me in their work.
We received a lot of support and guidance from the graduate recruitment team with regards to training contract applications, and also a lot of support from the principals we were assigned to and the trainee buddies.
The skills I developed on the placement will definitely assist me in my future as I now have a better idea of what to expect. The placement was successful in providing a genuine insight into work as a trainee solicitor.
The Company
The insight was very well structured; we were given a series of lectures and talks on different practice areas, as well as more general lectures on the strategy of the firm. There were also some more interactive workshops as well as a client pitch.
The general atmosphere was great. The regular social activities provided a good opportunity to get to know the other people on the placement
The firm put together a very comprehensive timetable of personal training and professional development sessions. These sessions were very helpful and the graduate recruitment team had clearly put a lot of effort into organising them.
I felt that the experience in the practice groups gave me a very good understanding of what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm. The many opportunities we had to talk to trainees was particularly helpful and they were very positive and honest in answering questions.
As I was there for three weeks, I felt I was able to significantly improve my understanding of the firm's culture. I found the culture to be very open and welcoming, and that people had a very work hard/play hard attitude.
The experience was very valuable. It confirmed my commitment to commercial law as my future career path.
Everything Else
Yes I was paid. The pay was more than adequate.
There were lots of opportunities to network with trainees, associates and partners, and also meeting the other members of the practice groups in which I sat.
The networking and social event opportunities were really enjoyable. They were also often in an informal setting which made it very relaxed and easy to ask questions.
Yes, we were given a talk about pro bono opportunities and the social side to firm. We were also told about the various sporting clubs available.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. Anyone with an interest in a career in commercial law would greatly benefit from this vacation scheme.
