The Role
My time at Lockheed Martin was highly insightful and I learnt about how a business functions from first hand experience.
My colleagues at Lockheed Martin were very supportive and provided help whenever I needed it. They respected my position which made me feel valued
Management provided me support when I needed it, although on occasions when they were busy I had to find a solution independently
I had a weekly routine of jobs I had to complete. Additional tasks were given to me throughout the work day and so at times I was very busy.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I anticipated. For instance, I was in charge of managing data given from contract administration through the use of a database
There were many new skills which I can no doubt utilise in the future. After my degree I intend to start my career in the financial services, and having this experience to back me up is invaluable
The Company
The office environment was usually positive and lots of fun. Some of my colleagues became good friends
I thought the programme for the placement was well structured. In Lockheed Martin they have a natural 12 month cycle from one intern to the next and so they understand how to employ placement students effectively
The company invited me to trade shows and conferences to learn more about the defence industry. I also took part in an Excel training course to improve my IT skills
Company Parties/Events
Unfortunately in terms of my position, in business development, I feel that it would be difficult for me to work my way up the organisation. I intend to start in a large finance firm in order to achieve this aspiration
The Culture
The graduates at Lockheed Martin were very welcoming to new interns and social events were arrange every other weekend
The cost of living was reasonable although the social scene in Bedford was poor
There were a few pubs and nightclubs, but it wasn't the greatest of places for a good night out
There were a few events arranged by the company outside of office hours. For example the MAD challenge 5k run was a huge success, with over 80 employees participating
