The Role
I really enjoyed this placement which is as much about the teams and supportive environment as the work performed.
Feedback is given very regularly and I was made to feel like an important member of most of the teams I worked on.
There was always someone to ask any questions I had. Even before starting I was assigned a buddy to ask any questions about starting and settling in. Once I started it was emphasised many times that we could always ask questions and should let it be known if help wasn't given.
There were occasionally very busy days or quite quiet days but in general the balance was good.
The responsibilities were exactly those of a first year graduate and I was able to request more responsibility when I desired it.
I was given the opportunity to take 9 of the 15 exams required to qualify as a chartered accountant and was given an invaluable opportunity to see what working in the accounting or auditing industry will be like.
The Company
There were many office socials from pool tournaments, murder mystery nights, sports teams, Wii nights and many, many more. There was also the opportunity to suggest any socials or clubs you felt were missing.
Ths programme has been running for several years and takes on many students; there was just the odd hiccup here and there such as being left off graduate mailing lists once we were in the office as we were not technically graduates. These issues were quickly resolved.
I was sent to all the same training as the graduates and started my ICAEW ACA qualification. I do not think any more could have been given in theis respect.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I will be returning once I graduate.
The Culture
Most people got involved in the office events mentioed above and there were many people who had recently graduated so I never felt that I was the 'baby' of the office. The general age of the office is quite young so there were quite a few nights out.
Milton Keynes is a reasonably priced town specially considering it's proximity to London.
40 min train to Central London but there are still many bars in MK and a few clubs if you aren't looking for a huge night out.
There were opportunities to get involved with charity schemes and orgnise office socials. There are many clubs in the MK region as well which can be joined.
