The Role
An excellent 13 months away from University. I chose to extend my placement an extra month at the end and didn't regret it. I was able to gain lots of really relevant and valuable experience which I can both apply to university studies and future employment.
Always felt involved and working towards goals. My work was always appreciated and helped the projects I worked on to reach their goals.
At the begin of my placement the scheme was not very well developed and I received little guidance. However, I soon realized that you can tailor the placement to how you want it and used this to my advantage. I could often ask for help and guidance from my peers and have since helped develop the placement scheme in general.
How busy I was varied from my different rotations within the business. But generally I was quite busy and had plenty of work to be getting on with.
In certain aspects, my work in concept down selection and general work did shape projects and their outcomes. I feel that I had more than a suitable amount of responsibility for someone in my position.
The training I received and skills I developed thought my placement will definitely aid my degree studies and can be applied to employment after my degree. Skills such as; systems engineering, project experience, MATLAB/Simulink etc.
The Company
Professional and friendly, it was always a nice place to work. The stress from managers did sometimes seep though but that's expected.
There was no real 'structure' to the placement when I started. However, this was not necessarily a bad thing as I could structure it how I wanted to. Towards the end of my placement more structure was added and an 'intern and graduate' manager introduced to the company.
I was able to attend several training courses that have developed my experience and skill set. I have also had the chance to develop more extra curricular skills though the companies outreach program as a STEM ambassador. All interns had the option to attend the Farnborough airshow with the company and RIAT.

Guaranteed a job with them after I graduate which I am looking forward to coming back to.
The Culture
Loads of things happening at weekends generally. Never a dull moment, even went on a skiing holiday with the graduates!
Generally quite good and reasonable.
Bedford isn't the best place in the country for nightlife, but isn't the worst either.
Loads of things to do, voluntary projects running at work that can be done outside of work as well as outreach.
