The Role
Loved the year and was treated brilliantly by my peers whilst I was there. Never felt like I was just a student as I was treated as a full employee with real reponsibilty - essentialy exactly what I was looking for
My contribution was always recognised and rewarded
Regular interaction with my manager and team helped me with dificult situations
There is always work to do at Microsoft if you network and ask the right people
Many things were left in my own hands and I was told that I was responsible for the outcome. At team meetings I was accountable for my targets and regularly had to update the team on their progress
The training on offer was second to none and I know that I could not have received any better 'free' training anywhere else at this stage
The Company
Often a vibrant and lively atmosphere but when it was review time, many individuals were busy non-stop and therefore not at their desks
Nothing to worry about in terms of the actual placement or work throughout the year
They gave me opportunities to go on courses on liaise with other teams depending upon what I wanted to specialise in long-term
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
A very dificult organisation to get into as their is huge competition in the IT industry - especially in the corporate world
The Culture
Many social events were arranged and we quickly got to know each other well due to ice-breaker activities arranged by the previous years interns for us at the beginning of our internship
Reading is not cheap as it is in close proximity to London. However you can still find affordable properties if you do research and share with fellow students
reading has a pretty poor nightlife with bars preferred to clubs
There was a huge emphasis on charity work whilst we were there and many students did sky-diving, paintballing, marathons etc to raise money in conjunction with the company
