    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was one of the best experiences of my life so far, to be involved so deeply with the real world workings of such a large company like GSK!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • People treated me as if I was a permanent employee - multiple times people where very shocked when they found out I was still a student! I've had an amazing time with my colleagues here.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • An incredible amount of support was provided by my manager and colleagues in all aspects of working, especially in developing my weaknesses.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I could be busy for 11 hours a day, but that was when deadlines were looming, and everyone else worked hard around them anyway - I didn't mind since I enjoyed my job so much. Usually the 9-5 day would absolutely fly by.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had to cover for my manager for two weeks when he went on jury service, and also took on three developments for our M-ERP project, especially labelling where I was in charge of undertaking most of the development and all of the defect resolution with the labels we had developed. I was also put in charge of one of our offshore resources and had to run TCs with him.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have been given an incredible set of skills from my placement ranging from technical SAP skills to great soft skills including event organisation, and being very customer oriented.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is a great place to be, with a great bunch of colleagues and lots of opportunities to take a break from the day.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement seemed very well set up with all the processes in place to make it as seamless and feel as much like a real job as possible, as well as being able to take the year to be able to learn in a great environment.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I learnt much of my skills on the job with my manager and other colleagues helping me learn things - as much as training courses the way the budget is organised departmental budgets are usually spent before the placement starts.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I've already secured a contract job to bring me up to my last year of uni and I've applied to the graduate scheme. As to what people have been saying about me I've heard incredibly positive things and it's looking good for the future!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • A group of us often went out in London, every couple of weeks and it could get quite messy for some of us sometimes! An incredible bunch of people to go out with and socialise with.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's London. If you know where to go, you can get away with some bargains but at the end of the day most places out are stupidly expensive!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, it's London, the nightlife is incredible, especially when we went to Ministry of Sound. So many places to go out clubbing, drinking, socialising during the night it was awesome!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • So many opportunities to get involved in, especially charity work.

    4/5
