The Role
It was a brilliant insight as to what my life and job coul dbe like after graduation
I felt I was more valued as time went on and I became more competent at what I was doing. Howeve rI did feel that the od person still looked at me as a student/not very useful by the end of my placement
My supervisor was wonderful, I cannot fault her. We met weekly and this was very helpful to plan my weeks work
This varied, sometimes I was very busy and on other occasion not so much. I had a couple of weeks with really nothing to do lab or office wise so I did some reading around my proejct
The level of responsibility I had increased through-out my project and by the end I was often asked to complete tasks by my self. i was also given the responsibilty of a work experience student in the last two weeks of placement.
I believe I has learnt an awfu lot whilst being here! I am able to do a lot of cell biology work although there are lab techniques I am still to learn
The Company
Quite when work needed to be done but at lunch times everyone was very social. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and there werr always people around to help you out.
We had an IP co-ordinator and she was very good at setting up extra lunch time sessions to learn more about GSK as a company and we also had a journal club where we all presented and discussed a paper we had chosen.
this was less the company as a whole and more my supervisor and the people I worked with in the labs
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
there are no openings for R&D employees at the moment
The Culture
Yes, we often went out for drinks and dinner together. We also had a christmas party together
Stevenage is reasonably cheap, my hosue was a good rent and there were plently of reaosnably priced pubs and resturants to eat and drink at.
Stevenage is not the nicest place to live and there was only one poor club availble. Better night life was available in London and nearby Hitchin and Cambridge
i joined a netball and swimming club
