About You
They really got me involved from the word go. My work was having having real action in the deals that were done.
Everybody made an effort to talk and make you feel welcome. There was nobody in the firm you felt you couldn't strike up a conversation with
We were each allocated a supervisor and a trainee buddy. Both always had time to listen to your silly questions, not matter how busy they seemed.
I thought I did, but I now appreciate the importance of attention to detail
The Company
The induction days and the organised events were excellent. The work was real, you never knew what was coming next!
It was always, but never felt competitive. Everybody had a genuine smile on their face
Training was mainly for the IT systems and networks. Every task was well explained and you could always ask questions. The rest of the course was not structured, but that's the beauty of it; everyone had their own experience and while gaining the important skills.
By the second half of the placement, you feel like one of the team. You quickly know whether or not this is where you want to be.
From the assessment days to you everyday tasks and social events, you are made to feel like you can participate in anything.
While some of the more complex things lawyers do an intern cannot possibly experience first-hand, you get a good feel for the things you would be doing for the next few years.
Everything Else
It was a very standard fee for this placement. Some people struggled with commuting though.
Many of the trainees, associates and even partners made an effort to pop round and say hello. There was even a networking event with one of their clients' summer vacation scheme students!
The food and drinks were great. You got to talk to at least some of the partners and associates. I wish there was a better ratio of employees to students so you could get a better feel of the different sectors from the horses' mouth.
The students were actively encouraged to get involved with the events that were going on! Even goign up to Coventry for a Corporate Games competition!
No question, I enjoyed my time here and got invaluable experience into what it means to be a trainee and a fully qualified lawyer.
