About You
I had an amazing three weeks.
I was given a lot of responsibility - the same as a trainee.
My buddy and supervisor were both very helpful and answered any and all questions I had, not matter how stupid - without judging me.
I learnt some really good skills, from scanning contracts and researching legal updates in my sector to using MS Outlook and the file server to it's full capabilities.
The Company
The graduate recruitment team really impressed everyone on my scheme with how much there was going on, and how well structured it was. Two days training at the beginning eased everyone in, with ice-breakers and IT training before you hit your departments on day 3. All the social events were really spread out and incredibly fun. Lots of the trainees email to try and come along but there are limited spaces (especially for the bowling and kareoke night)!
My time was exceptionally fun, but obviously when it comes down to it, there is a lot of work to be done. In spite the cliché - I worked hard and played hard.
They spent a lot of time training us, but once you get into the departments you are constantly learning too. Our 4 breakfast briefings (with full English Breakfast provided) were also very insightful into the work of other departments, which is good because you are limited to one department during the scheme.
I spent a lot of time with the trainees and got to see exactly what they did, as well as doing a lot of it myself.
The culture becomes abundantly clear from day 1, and even the assesment day, and that is that the firm is extremely friendly (most partners are really interested in getting to know what you've done and how you got here) hardworking and sociable.
There is nothing better than actually experiencing the work you will be doing as a trainee or even as an associate or partner when they invite you to client meetings, conference calls and ask you to complete tasks. I feel like I 100% know what the job entails and thus, that I know I want to pursue it.
Everything Else
£250 p/week.
You can get involved in lots of things in just three weeks. There are a number of drinks events, a networking session with trainees from Knight Frank which was fun, lots of trainees tried to attend our social events (pub quiz, bowling/kareoke etc.) and the partner dinner meant you got to speak with a variety of people.
Fun and insightful (plus lots of free alcohol).
There were sporting practices and luckily the "Corporate Games" fell in the second weekend of the scheme so a few of us put ourselves forward for the two day tournament in Warwick, which was great fun especially because of the variety of people that competed from the firm.
This is the best insight I have ever done.
