About You
Sat in Real Estate which is a very social department and was given a variety of work ranging from research to scheduling from a wide range of people, varying from trainees to partners.
Although some jobs like photocopying aren't the most glamorous, everyone was very grateful for your help and usually rewarded you with a more engaging piece of work!
A lot, although it is up to you to seek guidance. The trainees were excellent at checking work and giving tips before work was sent to supervisors, and the supervisors gave constructive feedback on every piece of work.
As a non-law student, I think I definitely gained some skills that will help me in my GDL - even just the exposure to the correct writing style is very useful!
The Company
Fairly well structured - the majority of time is spent in your department but there is departmental talks, inductions and assessments to break the day up.
Generally excellent - everyone in the department is very friendly. Not easy to meet people from other departments though.
Constructive feedback and suggestions of improvements on every piece of work submitted to your supervisor.
We were given a varied workload that typically reflects the trainees life - unpredictable work!
Talks about the company kept to a minimum but easy to see the culture within departments.
Gives a valuable insight into day to day life as a trainee, but also into career progression and what you want from the future.
Everything Else
Pay is £175 a week.
There was the opportunity to meet trainees from other departments, but no opportunity to meet partners and associates from outside the department you sat in.
Drinks Monday and Friday and a big social on Wednesday, which involved a treasure hunt around Leeds.
Seemingly little/no pro bono work to get involved with but there are opportunities to participate in sports teams
Definitely - you get to assess whether the firm is for you which you wouldnt be able to do through a straight training contract application.
