The Role
Friendly atmosphere, interesting research topic
Hard to say/compare.
I work on a very specialized topic in which I think I won't work anymore, but the methods and soft skills I've learned will be meaningful.
The Company
I worked in a laboratory and in an office, respectively with different people. Sometimes there was a slightly strange mood in the lab, but the atmosphere in the office was always good.
It was pretty well organised. Schlumberger organised and paid a B&B for the first two weeks, because I came to England for my placement. They also assisted me in finding a nice shared flat, opening a UK bank account and provided all information needed.
What ever I needed in the laboratory - I got it. Furthermore, there were really interesting presentations/talks in our side or at university where I was invited to.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
If I'll concentrate on this area I would love to get a job with them again, but I'll think my interests are on a different subject.
The Culture
We were between 8 and 15 interns (out of about 110 employers) at all times I was with the company. There also were a lot of young permanent employees. With all of them you could eat you lunch, play football or go out for a beer (or more ;) ).
Pretty expansive, at least compared to Germany, but for sure not too expansive compared to the salary.
City full of students...
Mainly college activities.
