About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. I gained a valuable insight into how the firm operates and I was able to experience a wide range of work throughout the time I spent at Baker & McKenzie.
I was valued as an active member of the team for the three weeks - I had the opportunity to contribute in each department in which I was situated and experience a varied range of work
I was assigned a supervisor and a trainee buddy to go to if I had any questions and prior to the experience the Graduate Recruitment team gave us detailed explanation as to what to expect
It allowed me to develop skills such as time management and communication skills. The use of team-work and presentation skills is also very relevant for my degree in coursework and be useful in future
The Company
We had structured talks and presentations but a large majority of my time was spent in two departments. So plenty of activities but also more flexibility to ask questions otherwise
The firm was very welcoming and supporting.
they invested time and effort in constructing such a concise timetable of activities - including a variety of skills sessions, team-based tasks and networking events. All the employees were very open to questions
I gained a good insight of a daily role under the guidance of the departments who gave me much work and witnessing them deal with clients, gave me a glimpse of the working environment and career
Being a part of departments allowed me to experience the culture within the firm, and the social events outside of the office allowed me to see the type of people they recruit to suit their culture
very useful opportunity to think about the practice areas of law that I am interested in and where I may wish to specialise in the future - also serious consideration on the type of firm I am interested in
Everything Else
Many opportunities to network with trainees, asociates and partners... as well as other students. Regular office lunches with social events at the end of the working day meant plenty of time to socialise.
variety of social events including bowling and karaoke, I had the opportunity to meet a range of different people - as different trainees attended different events. Very enjoyable times to be had!
presentations on pro bono and charitable work that the firm gets involved in
I would highly recommend the three week vacation scheme to students interested in experiencing life at an international city law firm. The scheme is very well organised and very enjoyable
