About You
The internship was enjoyable, with a variety of activities organised for us over the two weeks, both so that we could network with other interns and fee earners at the company, and to train us on skills for the workplace. The work was varied and interesting.
I was able to help a few members of the team in constructing valuation reports, and therefore I was made to feel a useful addition to the department for the two weeks.
Everyone was willing to take time out of their busy schedules to explain both the background to the work they were doing, and how to carry out the tasks they had set for me to do.
The internship was very useful for giving me a better understanding of subjects I will be carrying out in my property Masters degree, some of the theory behind it, but also the practical application of this knowledge. A presentation skills session and a 'how to network' event also taught us particularly useful business skills for future studies, and for use in the workplace.
The Company
Well structured, but more events could have been organised, particularly for getting to know the other interns.
The atmosphere at the firm was very relaxed, and very friendly. A very good effort had been made to integrate the interns into the company, and I felt very comfortable approaching fee earners both in my department and other departments.
We were provided with a couple of training sessions, one on presentation skills, and the other on networking, both of which were very well run and very informative. Further to this, the department itself were very willing to invest time in me to train me in the skills required to carry out productive work within their department.
I gained a relatively good understanding of the expectations at the firm, the type of work carried out, and the workloads given to employees. However, it was difficult to gain an insight into other departments in the business apart from what I gained having talked to other interns.
You definitely gain a very good feel for the company while you are there and also the culture of the firm, both through presentations given, and talking to employees. Even though the programme was only run for two weeks, this was a long enough period of time to know whether you would fit into the company culture.
The internship gives you a good insight into the department, and you really get to understand exactly what work they carry out, and also the scope of that work - very useful for helping you to determine a future career path.
Everything Else
I was paid a standard wage for this internship, which just covered the expense of living in London for the duration of the internship.
We had good opportunities to network with a wide range of employees at events organised by the company, from graduates, to associates, to partners, and even the global head of either residential or commercial. It was also relatively easy to approach individuals from other departments if you were proactive.
These were all held in the offices, with food and drink provided, but it would have been nice to have had events organised outside of the office in a more relaxed setting. This is something our group of interns organised amongst ourselves, to get to know the other interns in a more informal setting.
A few activities, but this was mainly networking events for the company that employees were expected to participate in. I didn't learn much about sports groups or other activities that employees could get involved in.
Yes. This was a well run internship, providing an excellent insight into the company, its culture and work practices. Significant time was investment in the interns, who were made to feel valued by their teams. The work was generally enjoyable, and quite varied.
