The Role
A fantastic placement. A very involved job with high levels of detail. Hard work at times however very rewarding.
I felt like a member to of the team, both within the four person working team and the greater department. I had a key role within the team rather than just being a 1 year temp at the bottom of the ladder/
A great level of guidance throughout. Regular meeting with my line manager to discuss how i was handling the role as well as time to discuss personal development, looking at improving skills and prospects for a future career.
The work was in a monthly cycle, busy the weeks either side of a month end, however quieter in the middle. However these middle weeks were not quiet times. The time was useful to develop long term projects and other tasks.
I was a key member of the team, in turn learning the majority of tasks required for the greater department to operate. Soon given responsibility to manage important tasks when team members were away and later took these on to be my regular tasks.
Key practical real world business experience. As well as developing business principles there was learning beyond anything a text book could. Understanding relationships between people though difficult times and managing my work and attitude to work even though an extremely difficult period.
The Company
A typical business office. A focus on getting the work done and getting the correct results. However with a level of openness which encourages open communication without intimidation.
Good structure throughout the process. The business is set up for Undergraduates and postgraduates being a key part of teams and departments rather than a last minute addition. The business looks after your personal development even though you are only there for 1 year and you are entitled to some of the benefits regular employees have.
Lots of courses to develop skills and personal career goals. You are able to access the same courses as all full time employees.

Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Good feedback and review and encouragement to apply to the Graduate scheme
The Culture
Good social environment with great people. Living with fellow students who work within the same building but for different departments or brand meant you are not spending too much time with anybody, a good balance.
The area is relatively cheap to for socialising, but rent will be a significant factor.
There is nightlife there, but it all depends on the other placement students who are there.
