About You
I enjoyed the whole experience, and would happily do another three weeks straight away.
I was given a surprising amount of responsibility in the tasks I was set. I genuinely felt like the work I produced was valued, even if it was only to the extent that my supervisors would take the time to evaluate what I had done.
Everyone I had any contact with had time for me, and made sure not only that I was happy, but that I could understand the work I was being given, and that was going on around me.
I gained valuable experience of life in a law firm, as well as specific research, drafting, and other skills which will be vital in later life.
The Company
There were presentations almost every day providing insight into many areas of the firm. We were also given mentors who would (when going to a new seat) take us to the new department and help us settle in.
I didn't meet a single person who was unpleasant. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere in each department I was in, though different, was always relaxed and fun.
On top of many presentations, we were also given many workshops into things such as advocacy skills, or case studies. These were very useful.
We had plenty of contact with members of the firm from trainee to partners and I feel that alongside the work we did, and our experience of the departments, the chance to ask them about how they felt about the firm gave an invaluable insight to what it would be like to work there.
It was clear from the very beginning of the vacation scheme that the culture of the firm is exactly as advertised - friendly, collegiate and I would argue, quite different from many other city law firms.
After this experience I sincerely hope that I will be able to work here in the future. It has made my desire to follow a legal career all the more strong.
Everything Else
£300 a week, paid after the scheme has ended.
Yes, employees from all departments and levels of the firm were invited to almost every event we attended.
Amazing fun - dragon boat racing, bowling, and a dinner at the Ivy to name but a few!
Yes, but mainly through discussions with people individually rather than through specific presentations. It was striking how many people have managed to keep up interests outside of work, and are supported in doing so.
Yes.
