The Role
The reason I enjoyed my internship so much was primarily because of the friends I made among the other interns and permanent staff. Cambridge was also a great place to live for a year.
For the majority our opinions and work efforts were valued by all the staff we helped.
My manager played a guidance role and would be available to help me if I required it but mainly I was left to get on with my projects and tasks.
work loads varied dramatically day by day. During some events I was working late multiple nights in a row.
Full access and control to business critical systems as well as to confidential information. I felt very trusted.
I'm taking my degree down a very software development heavy route. My placement mainly consisted of general IT work.
The Company
I was in an office with two other interns and we got along very well. The intern community for the whole site was very active and friendly.
Schlumberger employee a lot of interns so they were well prepared and all training was quick and relatively painless
Training was provided where necessary through internal and external training events
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Have been told they would like to place me somewhere in the company if I'm willing
The Culture
Mainly during the summer as that is when the number of interns peaked but there was always something to do.
Cambridge is very expensive but the placement was well paid
4 or 5 main clubs and lots of very good pubs. Had lots of very good nights out.
Cambridge as a city has a lot going on. I joined a few sports clubs and Schlumberger held social events frequently
