The Role
Enjoyable in the sense that I got to work on a huge, high profile and interesting client with some incredible people. Downside being that a considerable chunk of the year involved work that was repetitive and mundane (to be expected with the Big 4 in general at any junior level)
My colleagues made me feel like a really valued part of the team
I was lucky in that I had an exceptional counsellor who genuinely wanted the best for me and my career. The managers and senior managers that I worked with were great for the most part.
Relatively busy most of the time, the firm are pretty good at ensuring they utilise their staff. Some quiet spells and very occasionally over-busy.
I would have liked a bit more responsibility personally but I can't really complain considering how junior i was within my department.
I have actually been able to use the skills I have learnt (particularly in Excel) in my academic work. The skills I developed were also highly relevant to any finance related profession.
The Company
Depends whether you're based in a project room or (not-so)hot desking; the former being great, the latter being pretty rubbish
Reasonably well overall although there were some fundamental communication issues surrounding the career paths for placement students in the department, although I guess this is probably a common theme in larger international firms
The investment in placement students within my particular department within EY was poor in comparison to other departments. There was a well funded induction week enjoyed by all placement students, but placement students in our department received no technical training, unlike other departments.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
There are a variety of different career paths to take within EY and all are likely to provide a solid grounding for future career prospects.
The Culture
Yes, although this depends largely on the placement students and not on the organisation
To be within half an hour of the office and not live in a carboard box, it's expensive! The London salary weighting is easily eaten up by rent, social and commute costs
Not bad. Easy to get to other places in London too.
