About You
Everyone has been extremely friendly and welcoming. I have been given a variety of interesting tasks and also had the opportunity to enjoy the social side.
Anyone I completed work for was very grateful and made me feel as through I had made a genuine contribution to the matter.
All members of my team were happy to help if I had any questions and my buddy and supervisor would take the time to explain anything I was unsure of.
The communication and networking skills that I have needed to use over the two weeks are valuable life skills which I can take away. The tasks I have been involved in such as drafting, proofreading and comparing documents are useful for my Law Degree and give an insight into the LPC/Training Contract.
The Company
The overall structure hass been very good, with plenty of presentations and talks spread out over the two weeks to give lots of information. It may have been beneficial to have the first social event closer to the beginning of the first week so that us Vac Schemers could get to know each other a little earlier.
The balance of work, presentations and socials has given the two weeks a very positive general atmosphere. It has been a good insight into the working life of a Solicitor, but also been a lot of fun.
The practical exercises such as negotiation and group presentation were extremely useful in my personal development to enhance the skills needed in the legal profession.
My supervisors who I have shared an office with have taken the time to show me what their day to day life is like working at the firm and the tasks I have been completing are those that a Trainee would be expected to do.
It can be difficult to distinguish between City law firms, but I think you will not truly understand the culture of the firm until you have worked with the people. The two weeks has allowed me to gain an insight to CMS and meet a variety of different people who subscribe to the cultural environment.
I have always been reasonably set on entering the legal profession, but the two weeks has confirmed and reinforced my ambitions.
Everything Else
Yes the payment was a great addition to the Scheme.
Trainees, members of Graduate Recruitment and Partners would be present at the social events which gave an opportunity to ask questions and also network with different members of the firm.
The social events were all extremely enjoyable and a good opportunity to get to know the other Vac Schemers. As previously mentioned, it would have possibly been beneficial to have the first social a bit earlier in the Scheme to break the ice a little more at the beginning, but overall they were very good.
The CSR presentation was extremeley comprehensive and showed that CMS really promote opportunities for employees to take on projects outside, but alongside, their working day.
The whole experience has been a good insight into the legal profession and a great opportunity to gain a better impression of the firm as a whole.
