The Role
Really enjoyed it, I had learnt so much about the organisation and working with people, I would really recommend other students coming into the company.
The people I've met at Hunterston B were some of the friendliest people I've ever met. They always listened to what I had to say and valued my contributions to projects.
While my supervisor did quite a bit to ensure I developed my skills within the company, my supervisor also acted in a way that would encourage my independence.
There have been times where I've been busier than others, but that comes part of the job as students won't be given a significant amount of responsibility. I tried to keep myself busy by shadowing other engineers.
Due to the fact that this is a nuclear power station, only people who are suitably qualified can get significant amounts of responsibility. As a student, I was given just enough responsibility.
I've received more than 50+ training courses to make sure I was up to speed with the company's expectations and standards. Many of the topics covered and skills taught can be easily transferred to university modules such as risk assessments.
The Company
My colleagues all work very hard so it's quite a professional environment, however it's quite sociable.
Didn't feel there was much structure to the program, however the entry processes was set up quite well.
I had more than 50 training courses.
The graduate scheme offers a lot of development opportunites.
The Culture
Had great christmas and new year days out with my colleagues!
The placed I lived in wasn't the liveliest i must say!
Not great.. unless you lived more towards the city (but a greater commute time)
Activities weren't really advertised, however departmental dinners were often fun.
