About You
Fantastic introduction to the Bank of England, accompanied with some helpful hints and tips on the application process.
We were welcomed into the Bank of England and were highly valued as potential applicants for internships and graduate placements.
The team looking after us made sure that our questions were answered and that we understood the relevance of the activities to working at the Bank of England
The information on assessment days was perhaps the most helpful. It was interesting to see how assessors marked applicants and the criteria that typically needed to be filled by a successful applicant. Many details of assessment centers are kept secret so it was a really useful insight in this respect.
The Company
The structure of the day was good, ensuring that we learnt as much as we could in the time we had available. The only downside was that the 'networking' events they had throughout the days were not well attended by staff at the bank. Especially at the end of the day, the drinks and networking was more like 'drinks and reflections on the day'. It was helpful to have the HR staff on hand to answer more specific questions on the application process.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Those that were invited to attend were communicative and enjoyable to meet which accurately reflected the type of applicant the Bank would hire for a graduate or internship role.
They were very helpful in providing us with information that we could then use to apply directly to the Bank of England or elsewhere.
They called in some recent graduate staff to a panelling session which was quite useful, however I knew from previous experience that some of their thoughts on their job I wouldn't necessarily agree with. However, I find this is more from my own experience rather than a hindrance from the insight day.
They provided brochures and spoke a lot about life as a Bank employee which was very helpful.
A very valuable insight on deciding my future career path.
Everything Else
We were reimbursed for traveling costs to and from the event.
As a mentioned previously, I think networking opportunities could be improved by more staff attending the events.
They were regular and enjoyable throughout the day. It was a good opportunity to meet with other attendees to get their views on the insight and learn more about their university courses.
One of the students attending asked a question about this, in which we were enlightened to their sport facilities as well as social opportunties that are provided throughout the year.
I think as an insight day, it is a good start for anyone who is unsure what to do as an economist. This is because although the Bank itself is mainly aimed at graduating economists, they provide information about non-economist opportunities both inside and outside the Bank. The information on the application process was also highly invaluable.
