About You
It's such a good experience and gives a great insight into one of the many departments during the two weeks.
Absolutely- they give you a good level of work and responsibility which is varied and appreciated by the rest of the team.
You have both a training buddy and a supervisor who are always there to set tasks and give guidance when needed. I didn't ever feel like I couldn't ask questions when I needed to.
You learn so many different things during the placement. It's a good insight into how solicitors work, how they dedicate time, how they interact with clients, but also it enables you to see how law is applied in practice. They are skills which will definitely help with any future degrees or studies.
The Company
Very structured- each morning we had practice presentations which were based on different areas of the firm, so they allowed you to see just how many different departments Pinsent Masons has. There was also a few lunches, one with a couple of partners from the firm. Social evenings were also very well organised which were great fun.
Such a friendly firm! Everybody always has time for you- no need to worry about asking stupid questions, people really don't mind! Everybody seemed to get on well and it was a generally happy atmosphere.
The two weeks give you an opportunity to be offered a training contract, and you do get paid for the two weeks you are there which is enough to cover all expenses.
Although they don't make you stay past 5:30 on many occassions, they do make it clear that they do not leave at this time, and do put a lot of hours into their work. My team certainly made me aware of the level of work involved when completions are being made, but they didn't expect me to stay late at all!
The experience made it very clear that the firm is certainly growing, and is constantly looking to the future for further development. Presentations and first day introductions gave a good insight into the firm's cultures and what they stand by.
The department gave me a lot of work that a typical trainee would get- which is a great responsibility but a good experience to see if law is the right career for you.
Everything Else
You are both paid for your two weeks and you get reimbursed expenses for your travel to London on the first day if you are in the regional offices.
They made it clear that you could drop people emails whenever you had any questions, and the trainees were great for getting people involved in social evenings and office drinks.
Really fun, and met so many people.
They did mention some activities, particularly sport opportunties, but we had quite a few socials and so not many people tended to be involved in the other activities aside from these.
Such a great experience, the two weeks have completely flown by. Definitely recommend.
