About You
I enjoyed it the most out of the vac schemes I have done (3).
This varied from department to department. In corporate technology, I really felt like I was doing work that would help the team, but in disputes it was much less so, although the team was very busy so it's understandable.
It varied from department to department. In my first week I got a lot of guidance and support, but was left with very brief instructions in the second week.
I feel like I learnt a lot during my placement, which is perhaps why the experience was so positive. I really got an insight into the practical side of law.
The Company
It was well structured in that we were in a different department each week and had trainee buddies and supervisors to take care of us and set us work. There were also two social events a week, which was a good balance between work and fun.
I really enjoyed myself, the people were very friendly and helpful and encouraged me to join in with as many things as I could.
We had introduction talks about every department in the firm and general talks on what the firm did.
I think I got a very good idea of what being there day to day would be. People were very honest about the working hours in different departments and the perks and the disadvantages.
Taylor Wessing is all about its culture and you get a really good sense of that on the placement.
It was helpful in the sense that I got more experience and more of an idea about the two departmetns I was in, but there weren't any ground-breaking revelations.
Everything Else
Taylor Wessing pays 250 GBP per week, which is on the low side in the city.
We had several socials, a firm-wide event and we were encouraged to talk to as many people as we wished.
The networking opportunities were really good fun, although not very varied.
We had the opportunity to join some of the firm's sports events, and it was great to get involved. It would have been nice to get more information on Taylor Wessing's pro bono shcemes because they sound very exciting.
I would definitely recommend this vac scheme. It was very informative and I genuinely loved the firm.
