The Role
NB. Survey taken before 2nd rotation. Atmosphere and work was both dynamic and enjoyable. Working hours were less fun so although this is expected as an intern.
Varies from desk to desk so difficult to say. Everybody, employees and interns, were all generally helpful and friendly though.
My supervisors and mentors were generally very helpful indeed in guiding me and making my time o the desks more enjoyable.
Very busy. What was not very enjoyable was having to do a lot of work outside of normal hours, i.e. the trading simulation, trade idea presentation and trading simulation presentation all together. These all required lots of preparation, particularly in the first half of the internship. Therefore before work and coming back from it was spent mainly working too, although sometimes it was interesting.
Given a fair amount but this is difficult for trading. I did have a project that could be implemented into the system and hopefully used by the employees.
Learnt a huge amount everyday, which was probably the best part of the internship. In terms of financial technical and working environment insight, I don't know how I could learn any more. Numerous life skills were also developed further, although this isn't as measurable.
The Company
Dynamic and lively on my desk which was fun
HR were excellent, especially with the 2-hour Friday rotations, events, drop-in sessions and general care of interns. The trading idea presentation could have been addressed better as this came as a surprise of lots of extra work, although sometimes enjoyable. Occasionally the speakers in the speaker series didn't appeal to all the interns in being a bit generic, I felt.
Clearly invested a lot. The scheme of having programme buddies, desk buddies and mentors too was second to none.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing - it seems like an environment that I would very much like to work in
The Culture
Overall it seemed quite good, although in some cases there might not have been enough time in the day/week for socialising as much. Got on and made friends with lots of the interns very easily though.
London is expensive...
Appeared pretty lively - lots of pubs and bars around the area.
The opportunities were there but the time to do them was perhaps less than ideal. Would depend on the person's work/life balance themselves although the firm is not short of facilities or things to do in the area.
