The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my Internship and felt I learnt a lot from it. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. I had the opportunity to talk to and experience the jobs of people in almost every department to give me a real insight into what they do. This enabled me to be sure that Audit was the right place for me and that I wouldn't prefer to work in another area. Grant Thornton also put on a course for the interns at their training centre where I got to meet other interns from across the country.
I was welcomed into the team extremely quickly and everybody was willing to answer my questions and help me. I wish given responsibility from my very first day which made me feel like I could contribute a lot even though I was only there for a short period.
I was able to talk to and get help from people at every level throughout my placement. When I was set work it was fully explained to me and people would stop and take the time to help me if I was ever stuck.
My placement was fully planned out for me before I arrived so I would know what I would be doing in advance. Space was left for me to visit the other departments and meet different people to ask questions. I felt this was a great aid to me learning more about Grant Thornton as a company and what they can offer their clients. Where I completed tasks quicker than expected colleagues were happy to find me work or talk me through what they were doing.
I felt that I was treated like a new graduate and as such was given the same level of responsibility as they would receive. I was given work that I had to independently complete and sign off from the very start of my placement.
The skills I developed through working in a new team, meeting clients and the presentations course we did a Grant Thornton's training centre will benefit me greatly in the future.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and easy to talk to. Good atmosphere with a lot of hard work being done.
My internship was well planned from before I even arrived. I was assigned a buddy who planned were I would be and they ensured I had a mix of training and work to get the most out of my time there. My timetable was organised so that I got to see what work was done in the office and at client’s premises, I got to attend a course at GT's national training centre and I also got to take part in some charity work with interns from other offices. I was also asked what I wanted out of my internship so that some days could be planned around what I wanted to learn, see or do.
GT put a lot of time into teaching me skills that I can carry through life with me. I was able to experience almost all the departments and job roles that I wanted to see to ensure audit was the right route for me. This also helped me getter a better understanding of Grant Thornton as a company. They also put on a 2 day presentation skills course at their national training centre which I learnt a lot from.

Grant Thornton will invest in your learning and development and help you every step of the way. You can also experience working with a wide range of clients in many different industries.
The Culture
I was invited along to all the social events held in our office and got to attend a number of events with other interns from across the country.
I lived at home but it is not an expensive city to live and socialise in.
Milton Keynes has a good night life catering for a range of tastes.
There were plenty of opportunities including drinks with other trainees, sporst events, social lunches etc.
