About You
The 2 weeks were very enjoyable and although often the hours were long, the work was varied and challenging.
All interns were looked after nicely by the HR of the firm. If any of us had any issues not only HR were there to help, other employees of the firm were also often willing to help.
At all stages of the internship HR were there to guide us through. Moreover, many employees of the firm were willing to assist us with group projects as well as our individual stock pitches.
The skills developed in this internship will undoubtedly be helpful for the summer internship that follows this. I believe that some of the skills I developed such as organisational and communication skills as well as professionalism will help me in my degree and beyond.
The Company
The programme was thoroughly planned with time for projects etc taken into consideration. Moreover, the programme was planned to provide as thorough an insight as possible into the various desks within the Securities division.
All interns were competitive yet helpful at the same time. We were all also very inquisitive asking lots of questions during Spotlight sessions of the various desks.
Personal training and development was provided through one to one meetings with HR. It was also possible to individually meet with employees of the firm, helping with personal training.
The two weeks there provided a great taster to such future careers in the securities division within Goldman Sachs. An idea of the work we will be doing as well as the hours we will be working was provided.
In my opinion, talking to the employees was the best way in understanding the company culture and upon doing so I realised that my perceptions of the bank and its culture were incorrect.
I understood a lot about the different desks by talking to the people working on them and shadowing the work that was being carried out by them. Through doing this I was able to decide whether I wanted to pursue a career in Sales or Trading.
Everything Else
Yes I believe that the amount we received for this programme was adequate, despite losing a lot in tax!
There were several networking events such as drinks events. Moreover it was possible to arrange your own meetings with the employees of the firms.
There was plenty of time to mingle and meet new people including fellow interns as well as employees over drinks and canapes.
We got a taster of the different groups that the firm had including religious and ethnic groups, however it would have been nice to receive more of an insight into the different charitable work that Goldman Sachs gets involved with.
All in all it was a great 2 weeks and I learnt a lot about the Securities division which I don't think would have been possible through just researching on the internet.
