About You
The two weeks went by too quickly, in my opinion. I wish I could have stayed with the firm for longer!
On the last day of my placement I carried out work for the partner in my department, and as she had asked me to do something quite important, the work I produced was highly valued and I felt extremely appreciated.
My trainee buddy and supervisor were always there to offer me a helping hand.
I was required to draft notices in the property litigation department, which I believe will help me on my LPC course this year.
The Company
There was always a timetable/plan for each day, including practice presentations from the different departments at the start of each day, and organised lunches/social events every other day.
Everyone was extremely approachable and friendly- I was made to feel at home.
I was trained in using the IT services and the phone.
As I was given typical trainee work, I believe this gave me a great insight into the type of work I would be getting whilst at the firm and the type of hours I would be required to put in.
The culture of the firm was one of the best things about it. Everyone was extremely open and approachable, even up to partner level.
As I was only there for two weeks and only sitting in one department, I wasn't able to get an entirely rounded view of what I would be doing on a daily basis for my entire training contract and beyond, but I certainly got a good idea. This confirmed my desire to pursue a career in commercial law.
Everything Else
I was paid £500 and reimbursed for my travel expenses to London on the induction day.
I often went around the firm in the morning or during lunch and chatted to people in other departments. I also participated in a cake sale, which enabled me to meet all of the employees that were spread over two floors.
There was an organised networking/social event every other day. This included a trainee/partner lunch, bowling and the comedy club with trainees, and a trainee lunch- all of which the firm paid for.
Employees are able to get involved in sports teams, pro-bono work, and they are also often given free tickets to football games etc. During my placement, the trainees were also attending a ball for all Manchester trainees across all law firms.
Working for Pinsent Masons was a brilliant experience and I would definitely do it again.
