The Role
The Microsoft Intern programme is brilliant, you get a great balance of doing an important role within your team and being part of the intern community so you are involved with other projects and activities.
I was treated as anyone else is within the team and did not once feel like 'the intern'.
Not only by my manager but also by other managers around the department.
Depending on the time of year I had some more busy weeks than others (same as everyone else in the department!)
I feel I was given the right amount of responsibility based on my experiences and the role developed throughout the year.
I have developed on existing skills and developed a whole new skill set which will be a huge help in my final year and my search for a graduate job.
The Company
The atmosphere around Microsoft is very laid back and exciting, there is always an X-Box to play on at lunch time and things like that. I sat with a Leadership Team so my department was a little more serious but this has been a great experience in terms of networking at a senior level.
The scheme was set up very well and the team took all our feedback so I expect the next years will be even better
As an intern you have access to the trainings a full time employee does and you are given the time out of your day job to pursue personal and business trainings
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
There are a few different ways to return to the company, although the graduate scheme is very competitive there are other ways to secure a job within the company
The Culture
Being based in London (the HQ is in Reading) we had less of a social scene than the Reading interns just due to everyone living in different areas of London.
Being in London it is an expensive place to be based but there are still lots of affordable places to go.
This is a huge bonus of being in London, there is something for everyone.
There are loads of different sports/ social clubs in Microsoft and they are all subsidised. I did half price horse riding all year
