    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everyone was really friendly and helpful. The work that the vacation scheme students were given was both challenging and interesting. All the students got on really well and the events that were put on by the Graduate Recruitment Team helped everyone settle in really well.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As mentioned above, everyone was really welcoming and helpful. This made the whole experience a lot better and meant that I could get the most out of my three weeks with Hogan Lovells.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The Graduate Recruitment team were truly great - they were there to help and answer any questions you had. They worked really hard to make sure that everyone was having a good time and that any problems were sorted out straight away. My supervisors likewise were really approachable and made sure you knew exactly what you were supposed to be doing and also made time to go through the work afterwards so that you felt like you were really learning from the tasks.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work given was often quite challenging and obviously, not having done the GDL it is hard to be given proper work. However, the supervisors made sure that you were always busy and that you got the opportunity to feel how it is to have to juggle your time. This was nicely balanced with the fun activities put on by Graduate Recruitment and there were only a couple of evenings when I found that I had to stay past 5.30 in order to complete the work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given enough responsibility to complete the work that I had been given. Obviously, as mentioned above, there is only so much that a law student can do without having done the GDL and so the I felt the level of responsibility was appropriate to the level at which I am at.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Hogan Lovells really invest a lot of time in training you during your time with them. We not only received IT and research skills training but also had numerous workshops to help us. This meant that we all not only left with an insight into the firm but also with skills that we can take forward into our studies and beyond.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and welcoming. Coupled with the events put on by Graduate Recruitment, this meant that the whole experience was really fun and I made some great friends while I was there.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was meticulously organised - we were even given planners to help us. There were workshops on nearly every day and this meant we had a lot of contact with both Graduate Recruitment and the other vacation scheme students, something that I know is not too common.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned previously, the firm spent a lot of time on training. We received both IT and research skills training and there were a number of workshops on throughout the weeks which helped us develop skills such as advocacy and our financial knowledge.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Everyone has the chance to be interviewed at the end of the scheme for a place on the training contract. Although not guaranteed a job, I know that on my vacation scheme everyone chose to interview for a training contract.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone got on really well. We would all meet for both lunch and sometimes after work drinks and everyone still keeps in touch.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is quite an expensive place to both live and socialise compared to the rest of the UK. However, I was fortunate to be renting a flat in London already which meant that this was slightly less of a problem for me.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has great clubs and bars and so this was not a problem.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, we got many emails about sports activities etc that were going on and that we were welcome to join in with. There were also lots of activities set up by Graduate Recruitment such as dragon boat racing and bowling.
