The Role
Working as a teaching assistant for a summer school was a very enjoyable activity, especially because the students had a passion for learning
We formed a very close team and had some TAs outings, etc...
I was given personal telephone numbers for both supervisors and was able to contact them anytime.
I was not particularly busy as I only thought 2-3 hours daily, but there were other tasks available for me to do.
Most of the programme for the summer school was organised by my direct supervisor, but I was given reasonable responsibility to adjust and change the timetable/tasks as necessary.
The more experience working with the students in the 15-18 year-old category, the better for my future PGCE training.
The Company
We had a reasonably good atmosphere, though there were some minor misunderstandings with the catering staff.
Organisation was done perfectly due to hard work of the main organiser from Pembroke College.
There was not much training, in terms of children safety via NSPCC or First aid or Teaching skills training, when compared to other summer schools.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I will hopefully work for this summer school next year again.
The Culture
We had a good work/social life balance and the overall experience with the rest of teaching staff was good.
We were provided with a budget for socialising which was better than we could have possibly spent and the accommodation was provided too.
There was not much nightlife, especially because I was responsible for 10 teenagers during the night.
Not too many.
