    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It is a job after all, but has enough variety and perks to keep you engaged.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Fellow colleagues have a keen interest in my work and overall internship experience.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • In my case, I try to be independent and not rely heavily on my supervisor. My peers are happy to help at this level, and more if required.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The pace is relaxed and the volume of work is enough to never be bored. I could work faster and finish sooner, but everything has a waiting time here so there is no point in rushing. When normal work gets boring it is very easy to get involved with something more engaging like track testing or vehicle evaluations. There is as much pressure as you choose to make.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In my initial meeting with my supervisor to assess what I want from the placement, pressure and responsibility were two attributes I wanted to experience. Everything I have asked to experience has been met. I have been responsible for important data capture using expensive equipment, as well as engineering a solution to a new problem and having expensive components specifically made.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed and the knowledge i have gained from university have been crucial to being able to work in NVH. Being here for only three months means I haven't received training in areas such as driving, car jack operation and other skills that a longer intern ship may require. However, dealing with people in different departments, arranging meetings and persuading colleagues with cake will definitely be useful in the future.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Relaxed, but not informal. As the job is never completely a your desk, everybody is up and around often during the day. Also there are various informal meeting going on around the office throughout the day.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well organised, good contact is maintained and all relevant information is supplied in good time. The only downside was the lack of help with accommodation.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As it is only a 12-week placement, personal training and development has not been a big priority. However my manager, supervisor and other colleagues regularly go out of their way to show me the perks of the company. This involves track testing, vehicle evaluations and other interesting and very fun parts of the job. Yes they are trying to sell the job to me, but it works!

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I really enjoy working with a finished product, seeing results and having something to show for my work. I don't think i could go into a job working on something small and of less significance than what I do here. The pace of the job, the money and the level of enjoyment are enough to persuade me to make a career from it.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are around 100 interns alone, never mind the graduates. There are regular nights out, plenty of lift shares and everyone is a good person.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted 20 miles to and fro each day, but where i live, there are loads of pubs, clubs, restaurants and everything else a city and university campus can provide. The house share i am in is well priced and really really nice.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Coventry is okay, Leamington Spa is apparently better although i don;'t know yet.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • With colleagues yes, climbing with my manager, raft racing with another. None organised by the company though.

    3/5
