The Role
Coming from a computer systems background, there is a lot to learn about the "real world" aspects of manufacturing. Its been very interesting, and I have been able to work on several different teams on different company locations throughout my placement.
Everyone is very friendly, will make you feel at home in the office from day one no matter what site you are on.
My manager has been a star since day one, sorted everything HR wise out for me, including getting me access to the correct buildings, and even when I am off site he drops me an email daily just to make sure things are going ok.
Talking to some other interns they have complained they don't have a lot to do, especially in the first few weeks. I have to say I have been consistently busy since I started, with several tasks or ongoing projects to do each week. It is a good balance of hard work and social time in the offices here.
I have been given several tasks which have been reported directly to the senior management since I started, including future plans etc. Also currently since I am based in a manufacturing plant this week I have been standing in for another member of the team who is on holiday, so I have been doing almost all of their daily responsibilities.
I have definitely learned a lot of my placement, mainly what engineers do in the real world. Its been a little bit of a shock to settle in, but I can finally see why we take project planning and other professional development modules in university - the world is definitely project performance based.
The Company
Everyone is always up for a laugh in the office.
There have been a few minor bumps along the road and information that was not immediately provide about pay etc however the teams who you need to contact are only an email/phone call away and they are always more than willing to help.
I feel like I have been invested in, the company have obviously paid me whilst I have been here, and it is a constant learning curve. The company also offer online training courses to assist you in understanding new products and the brand which are very useful. There are also additional courses you can book which the company will fund (depending on cost) such as driving experience days.

I am on a sponsorship scheme with JLR, so providing I pass my end of placement review I will be offered a place next summer for another placement without the need to reapply.
The Culture
Yes definitely! If you are looking into this placement, stay in Liberty Park halls if possible, even if you live nearby. It costs a bit (although JLR get a discounted rate) but living with the other placement students is a great laugh and always handy if you need a lift to a different site.
Cost of living in halls is maybe a bit pricey compared to a house (although good luck finding one!) however the local area - shops/pubs are pretty cheap.
Night-life in Coventry is okay, travel to Lemmington or Birmingham is better for a night out but taxis are expensive even when sharing.
There are none directly linked to JLR that I am aware off, however there is plenty to do in the local area.
