The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement
My colleagues were hugely welcoming and appreciative of my work almost without exception
My supervisors have always been very happy to help despite having a huge workload themselves
It was incredibly rare for me to have nothing at all to do but I also very rarely felt like I had more on my plate than I could deal with
I was doing work which would have huge financial implications for the company if done incorrectly but supervised to an extent so was not entirely responsible
The communication and project management skills I have picked up will surely help me in any future jobs I take on.
The Company
My colleagues were great people but I didn't have a lot in common with them, especially as I wasn't working with other undergraduate or graduate employees.
Outside of HR's generalised preparation for all undergraduate students there was very little department specific preparation done. There wasn't necessarily work ready and waiting for me when I arrived although this was resolved relatively swiftly
Other than peer to peer training I did receive any training from the company
Subsidised Canteen
Difficult to say at this stage but in general graduate recruitment seems to take place predominantly from previous undergrad placement interns
The Culture
Social events took place at least once weekly
Accommodation was very affordable and socialising could be done relatively cheaply
Excellent bars in the local area
Mainly Socialising
