The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my 12 months and hope to go back as a graduate.
I worked with multiple teams and departments and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
National Grid is very focused management and guidance. As a placement student it was different for me, however full time employees have regular one to ones and catch ups.
In the beginning on my placement things were a bit slow but it quickly picked up and i went through stages of being extremely busy and then it would die down again.
One project in specific was very high profile and i had alot of responsibility. It all depends on what team you are in and the projects given to you.
The skills i gained during the past 12 months have been extremely useful. My attitude to work has significantly improved and my confidence towards my work has improved.
The Company
Our team had good fun and all got on very well. We also knew when we had to focus and get on with work.
Once we started we had various events set up to ensure the placements were going to plan. It is easier to send an email to the placement organiser then try and find them!
I had alot of opportunities to have training. Every placement student has a 2 day training course on learning and personalities. As a graduate you will have significant training over a few months.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Working from home
Healthcare from home
Would love to come back and they do try and give you an advantage in the interviews.
The Culture
Lots of events going on and alot of nights out organised.
Compared to my university it was an expensive area!
Again compared to university the night life was ok.
