About You
It was great!! So much fun and very well organised. Grad recruitment did a good job with the balance of work and getting to know the culture of the firm - with 1 social per week and other opportunities to network.
Grad recruitment are really really nice, as are the trainees/associates/partners at the firm. I was invited to train with one of the Baker & McKenzie sports team - and they said I can come even after my vacation scheme ends!!
You have multiple people you can go to for advice/support. Grad recruitment are always happy to meet up with you for a coffee to discuss any questions you may have. You also have an associate supervisor and a trainee buddy. Everyone else within the firm is approachable for advice too!
Great insight to life as a trainee at Baker & McKenzie and have definitely learnt more about the practicalities of the job. Would have perhaps liked to get more stuck into some of the work - but time constraints mean this is difficult.
The Company
Structured schedule - there were talks most mornings (from the key departments and regarding things such as pro bono). Other than that you return to your department to do your assigned work. Good balance between a structured scheme and having the independence to complete your work.
Really friendly - great bunch of people working at the firm, and on the vacation scheme itself.
We got fantastic talks about client pitches and were able to talk the the firm's knowledge department in our own time if we wanted to. I was very impressed with emphasis placed on personal and professional development.
To a large extent yes - we sat in offices with associates and were able to network with trainees, associates and partners. We were often invited along to department meetings etc. However, there is always a limit to how involved you can get on a short scheme.
Fantastic - purely because of the number of opportunities to network and get involved. Also, we had a lunch with the Management Committee where we could ask them any questions we wanted to. This made us feel really valued by the firm.
It gave a good insight into what day-to-day life would be like - so in that sense, put us in the shoes of a trainee, enabling us to decide whether this would be a suitable career for ourselves.
Everything Else
£270/week
Yes! 3 socials a week, plus associate and partner networking events. You could also meet up for coffee with specific people, if you had questions/issues you wanted to discuss with them.
Really great fun. Relaxed, informal - made it feel like we were already working at the firm!
Sports teams, lots of opportunities for pro bono work etc. There is definitely something to suit everyone - you just have to get involved!
Definitely.
